Olib Shines Thanks to Joint Action of Locals and Guests

The island of Olib, known for its untouched nature and beautiful beaches, recently became the scene of a commendable initiative that further enhanced its coastline. During Labor Day, guests and locals joined forces in a large-scale beach, shore, and trail cleanup, demonstrating a strong connection to this gem of the Zadar archipelago.

Organized by the Račić Olib Sports Fishing Society (ŠRD Račić) and supported by the Zadar Tourist Board, this action continued last year's initiative by Maribor residents of Olib. With the aim of preserving the island's natural beauty, volunteers enthusiastically got to work.

This year, thanks to the commitment of ŠRD Račić, which also provided refreshments for all participants, the Vela Slatina and Fućin coves were included, the cleanup of the path between the idyllic beaches of Slatinica and Vela Slatina was completed, and the trails between Vela Slatina and Fućin cove, as well as the direct path from the village to Fućin, were tidied up.

The result of the joint effort was impressive – over 70 bags of various waste were collected, in addition to bulky plastic debris. An interesting detail of the action was the discovery of numerous shoes on the shore, from which a creative installation "Just do it" was even made, testifying to the unusual "gifts" of the sea.

After the successful completion of the work, a well-deserved gathering followed at Bar Slatinica with a delicious cuttlefish risotto, song, and laughter. This positive atmosphere confirmed the strong desire to continue this action next year, with the announcement of a rich summer filled with sports, entertainment, and educational activities organized by ŠRD Račić.
