Exactly at 11 o'clock, on 10th April 1875, Zadar was shaken with stentorian thunder of cannons. The imperial yacht Miramar arrived in the Zadar channel, followed by war ships Kaiser, Radetzky, Frundsberg, and Nautilus, and following them steamships Gargnano, Fantasia, and Adria. Another 33 salvos resonated when the Emperor Franz Joseph’s foot touched the ground of his Rector’s city. The gathered citizens cheered excitedly, and the Emperor with many followers, walked to the ceremony of the Te Deum at the Cathedral of St Anastasia.
