The International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar is organizing an international conference on cultural tourism with an emphasis on the First World War in collaboration with the organisation INOVAcija as a part of the NETWORLD project.
The Conference named “Submerged heritage of the First World War” will take place in Zadar on the 12th June 2018 at St. Nicholas church within the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology. The date of the Conference was symbolically chosen on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Austro-Hungarian navy Szent István which we mark this way.
Since the Republic of Croatia has great potential for the development of diving tourism, the Conference will aim at its popularization. The intention is to gather experts from the fields of history, cultural tourism and underwater archaeology to present the historical maritime affairs and fleets of the First World War in the Adriatic and Danube.
The emphasis will also be on the locations of shipwrecks which are attractive to tourists and which need to be further valorised and described in the presentation of the submerged heritage provided from participant´s expertise of good and bad practices.
