Gneius Baebius Cnei Filius Tamphilus Vála Nvmonianvs

GNEIUS BAEBIUS CNEI FILIUS TAMPHILUS VÁLA NVMONIANVS was the real name of the Roman finance officer adopted by Gnaeus Baebius Tamphilus. After having advanced within the services of the Roman Empire between 27 and 25 BC he was assigned as the Proconsul of the Illyrians. During his proconsulate the ancient town of Jader was established, so he is considered the patron of Zadar and the constructor of its forum. His name was discovered on a well in Zadar in 1984 and before that, in 1862, on an inscription located in Rome. A statue excavated in Zadar, dating from that era and regarded as a portrayal of Vála, is now kept at the Archaeological Museum Zadar.
