The Museum of Ancient Glass in Zadar invites you to the the exhibition "IN VITRO – Stories about Glass in Pharmacy and Medicine of the Ancient and Modern Ages", authored by Anamarija Eterović Borzić and Vedrana Jović Gazić, PhD.

The main role in Stories about Glass in Pharmacy and Medicine of the Ancient and Modern Ages is played by individual, seemingly simple objects that introduce us to the historical and archaeological interpretation of the human urge to investigate the origins of diseases and physical ailments.

Both in ancient times and in all subsequent historical periods, glass had an important place in medicine, pharmacy, and a number of associated, functionally related areas. Its application was based on the unique properties of the material, which is solid and transparent, completely colorless or slightly tinted, does not stimulate chemical reactions and enables long-term preservation of the original substances contained in glass containers.

Along with the objects that form the backbone of the Story, the display of this exhibition brings the experience of a combination of different sensations, sight, sound, smell; it takes us through specific historical moments of human ingenuity, in which the material glass has always had a special place.
