The Silver Hand: A Little Piece of Zadar

While admiring the priceless treasures preserved within the Gold and Silver of Zadar exhibition, Marija was struck by a simple but powerful thought: it would be a shame for stories of such value to remain confined to museum display cases.

“Zadar is home to extraordinary historical objects made of gold and silver. As I looked at them, I thought that these stories deserved to live beyond the museum walls. I wanted to create something that was truly connected to Zadar, rather than another mass-produced souvenir that could be found anywhere. My idea was to make a piece of jewellery with a soul of its own, something created directly from Zadar’s heritage,” Marija explains.

And so the Silver Hand was born, a contemporary interpretation of a motif that has been part of Zadar’s religious and cultural identity for centuries.

The choice of material came naturally. The pendant is made of silver, creating the closest possible connection with the original reliquary.

“Silver was the only right choice for me. It was extremely important that the pendant should be made from the same material as the original. In this way, silver becomes a link between the historic object and its modern interpretation. The result is a piece of jewellery that preserves the spirit of the past while feeling completely at home in the present,” the designer adds.

Throughout history, the hand has always carried deep symbolism. It creates, protects, gives and connects. Transformed into a precious metal, this silver hand becomes a small but expressive link between Zadar’s heritage and the person who wears it.

This is more than simply a reminder of a journey. It is an authentic piece of Zadar’s history and art that you can take with you. Because some stories should not remain locked behind glass.
