The Palace of the Venetian General Proveditor for Dalmatia, on the southwestern side of the Petar Zoranić Square, was erected in 1607. After the Venetian, the French Proveditor inhabited the Palace, while Austria built another floor for its appointee in 1872. The space was decorated so luxuriously that it could even cater to the Emperor Francis Joseph, when he visited Zadar and Dalmatia in 1875. The only thing necessary was to gather carefully picked furniture, rugs and sanitary equipment, above all chamber pots, from the most prestigious homes in Zadar.
