Guillotine in the Park of Our Lady of Health

With the arrival of the French administration in Dalmatia, the very well-known Mrs Widow, the Guillotine, arrived in Zadar. The first execution in the French manner was carried out in 1812 in the tame park of Our Lady of Health. The victim was an unfortunate woman who stabbed her husband to death with a knife 40 times. The big excitement of the curious crowd, their intrusions and loud comments were interrupted swiftly when the executioner lifted high and publicly displayed the decapitated head of the ill-fated convicted woman.
