Shakespear's Falstaff Was Born in Zadar

Sir John Falstaff from Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor was born in Zadar's Rector’s Palace! The premiere of the Venetian writer Luigi (Alvise) Pasqualigo's comedy, Il Fedele, was played "Di Zara l'ultimo giorno di Carneuale l'Anno 1575". One of the male characters from this unbelievably erotic comedy seized the attention of the audience with military humour and sexual swagger. The work was translated and published in London in 1585 under the title Fedele and Fortunio, the Two Italian Gentlemen, from where Shakespeare adopted the character of the Loudmouth.
