Bell Tower by Thomas Graham Jackson
The Bell Tower of St Anastasia’s Cathedral was constructed for more than four centuries. The base and the first floor arose between 1452 and 1480. From then, the works were delayed until 1887, when the project was ordered from the famous English architect Thomas Graham Jackson. The construction finally began in 1890 and lasted for four years. Only five years later defects were discovered on the connection point between the old and new part of the tower. It was determined that these defects were caused by the effects of the vibrations of the strong and heavy bells, so their iron holders were replaced with wooden ones.
