Free Guided Tour of Zadar for World Tourism Day
To mark World Tourism Day, the Zadar City Tourist Board invites locals and visitors to join us for a special Sunday walk and discover, or rediscover, Zadar through the stories of its streets, squares, city walls and waterfront.
A free guided city tour in Croatian and English will take place on Sunday, 27 September, starting at 5 PM. The meeting point is at Five Wells Square, at the entrance to Queen Jelena Madijevka Park, where we will begin a walk through centuries of Zadar’s history.
Participants will be able to choose between a Croatian or English-language tour at the meeting point and meet the guide who will lead them through the city. Few cities are as well suited to exploring on foot as Zadar. This was also recognised by The New York Times, which three years ago included Zadar among seven of the world’s best cities for walking. Just a few kilometres across the Zadar Peninsula take you on a journey through more than two thousand years of history, from stone-paved streets and ancient city walls to Foša, the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun.
Zadar’s city walls hold a special place in this story, having protected the city for centuries. Built and reinforced between the 12th and 17th centuries as part of the defensive system of the Venetian Republic, they are today part of the UNESCO World Heritage List and one of the most recognisable reminders of Zadar’s rich past.
World Tourism Day is therefore a perfect opportunity to slow down for a moment, take an unhurried walk through the city and see familiar places from a different perspective.
Zadar is not simply a city to be seen. It is a city to be discovered, step by step.
