Exhibition | Traces of Time - Restored and Donated Artworks

Zadar has a specific historical experience that sets it apart from other Adriatic cities. The devastation during the Allied bombing during World War II destroyed almost eighty percent of the city's historic core. Not only buildings disappeared in the ruins; numerous objects, works of art, family heirlooms and precious traces of the everyday life of Zadar's citizens were irretrievably lost. With them, numerous layers of memory that shaped the city's cultural identity for generations also disappeared.

The "Traces of Time" exhibition is not just a review of restored and donated works of art and furniture. It is an invitation to encounter the past, to recognize the value of donations that have enriched museum collections, and to reflect on the role of each of us in preserving our shared memory. Because every rescued object, every restored painting, and every donated piece of furniture represents another returned fragment of the story of Zadar – a city whose history, despite all the destruction, continues to be told through objects that have survived time.
