Gastronomic Offer of Advent 2023 in Zadar, Third Part

The gastronomy standards of the Advent in Zadar – sausages, burgers, fritters, mulled wine and gin… - have long been set, and these basic morsels are omnipresent in other, bigger and more well-known Advent fairs will remain in the offer even this year on the Advent squares of Petar Zoranić and Pet bunara (Five Wells).

However, upon carefully examining the 25 hospitality applications that have gotten their position under the lights, it has been clear that the food offer at the Advent in Zadar will be far more interesting and diverse from the basic standards and that some of the hospitality workers are making efforts to include various refreshing offers and surprises. Along with the entertainment program, the gastronomic offer will be the most interesting part of Zadar's Advent, and ambitious and imaginative hospitality workers need a curious and hungry audience, ready to explore the sea of house. In order to make the quest for the best or the most suitable offer for every Advent guest, whether local or foreign, in several articles we present the best from the offer of each of this year's houses. Rollin' Delights and Rollin' Bites

These two houses, located one across from the other, are part of the same fast-food story called Rollin' Flock represented by two partner companies. The Rollin' Flock brand derives from a number of restaurants and clubs on Zrće Beach that prepare fast food and in Zadar they are present with their food truck at City Gallery Marketplace. Shroom Burger, Sausage Special and Spicy Cheese Balls are only some of the specialties of Rollin' Flock that have now reached the Advent in Zadar.

And Delights and Bites offer good and rich burgers and warm sandwiches with original supplements and sauce that can be combined into various types of side dishes. The offer may be similar but the difference is in the details: while, for example, in the Delights House boiled buncek with stewed sauerkraut in a sandwich can be called Buncek Bites, the Rollin' Bites House does not offer that dish, but Cheeky Beef does offer pulled beef cheeks in bread roll with marinated cabbage, cranberry sauce and crispy fried onion. While the first house offers fritters with apples and three types of toppings, the Bites counter offers Spanish churros.

Basically, Rollin' Flock's fast food story is interesting and varied, so it is to be expected that this type of food lovers, especially when this more modern approach includes well-known, traditional flavors, will have enough material for research in the Advent days to come.

Santa's Barrel

This house is connected with the Zadar well-known shop of top-quality wines and other beverages under the name of Barrel. The offer of this cheerful team has been known since last year, when they stood out with the Istrian sausage made from boškarin beef, which was one of the best at the entire Advent in Zadar. Luckily, they are offering it at this year's Advent. Barrel's offer is, first of all, directed towards the offer of wines primarily from the Zadar region, and concerning food,  good beef burger can be recommended combined with  many types of sauces: from truffle, wine with crispy onions, avocado cream or BBQ sauce.

Grinch

It was cute when Julio, one of the associates of the Grinch owner, Ivana Arbanas, shyly answered the question: Who makes those homemade biscuits on the counter? 

'Sometimes my girlfriend, sometimes I do, whoever has time, at home …' And we could hardly wait for such an answer. Original crumbly home-made biscuits in Grinch are one of those small sweet surprises that should be appreciated and definitely tried at Advent. This house, of course, has meat offers such as semi-smoked sausages from the famous Miletić butchery from Stankovci, and also huge cheeseburgers, and Grinchburgers, debrecinka sausages, and sometimes some warm dishes such as lamb ragu.

The Three Kings

Domagoj Čirjak narrates his Advent story in the Three Kings House. He belongs to the younger generation, an exceptionally talented generation of Zadar chefs educated at the Tourism and Hospitality School who acquired his experience in the affirmed Kruške i jabuke Restaurant in Zaton belonging to Marko and Ivana Perić, and until recently chef in the well-known Kapric. In most of his offer, Domagoj has fused Mexican gastro packaging, tapas and tortillas with the heritage of these parts of our country. He enriches small tapas with shrimps and venison, and rolls with čevapi, breaded poultry and venison in tortillas. He wishes to retain the traditional tastes in his Advent house,  and in his own way tries to bring them closer to street food. You can also get a good sarma, venison in a bread roll at the Three Kings, as well as a homemade donut with tangerine jam or caramel with cinnamon.

Hedonist

This house is, of course an Advent one, is a field story of the well-known restaurant Hedonist Dining & Hangout on  the Zadar Peninsula.  The idea of excellent burgers from their base was transfered to the Five Wells Sqaure. They retiained most of the dihe from last year's offer uch as pulled pork in Frigus bread roll, and this year they have added some new dishes such as Asian Aviatian – boneless chicken breast dipped in teryaki sauce and enriched with lettuce.

Ikić's excellent homemade divenica sausage with Jack Daniel's honey sauce is also to be recommended.
