Exhibition | Znanstvena knjižnica Sveučilišta u Zadru poziva na otvorenje izložb
The Research Library of the University of Zadar invites you to the opening of “Marginalia in Focus”, a visiting exhibition from the National and University Library in Zagreb, accompanied by a selection of items featuring marginalia from the collections of the Research Library of the University of Zadar.
The exhibition opening will take place on Friday, 23 October 2026, at 12 noon in the Exhibition Hall of the Research Library of the University of Zadar, Ante Kuzmanića 3, Zadar.
The exhibition will be presented by its authors:
Ivan Volarević, heritage collections librarian
Iva Perinić, art historian and curator
Tatjana Mihalić, PhD, musicologist and library adviser
The exhibition offers an insight into the richness and diversity of marginalia: handwritten notes, dedications, drawings, comments and other traces left by readers and owners on the pages of books and other materials. These inscriptions reveal how the materials were read, studied and used over the centuries, preserving valuable testimony to people, their times and cultural history.
Alongside the visiting exhibition from the National and University Library in Zagreb, visitors will be able to explore selected examples of marginalia from the collections of the Research Library of the University of Zadar. These include handwritten notes in old books and atlases, dedications, censorship marks, annotations on theatre posters and messages on postcards.
The exhibition will remain open until 6 November 2026 during the Library’s opening hours. Visitors are asked to notify staff at the User Services Department desk before viewing.
