Gastronomic Tour of Advent 2024 in Zadar, Third Part
We visited each house and in several installments we bring you a selection of the offers of hardworking and imaginative caterers that they have prepared for the people of Zadar and their guests this year.
Christmas Colonna
This little house represents Colonna, the only mixology bar in Zadar where you can enjoy top-notch cocktails, so it's no wonder that for their Christmas edition they have prepared four cocktails for the Zadar audience and for the first time brought high mixology to Advent. Tempting in color, shape and taste, they are Lemon-ginger, Cherry, Apple-cinnamon and Black. Christmas Colonna offers an impressive selection of burgers, and they introduced themselves to us with the Schwarz&Negro burger, more popularly known as Schwarzenegger.
The bun is black because of the cuttlefish ink in it, the meat is 200 grams of premium Angus, it also has caramelized onions, truffles and cracklings and is very filling. And speaking of ink, they also offer Crna Slavonka, a mildly spicy sausage made from black Slavonian pig. This year they also have brioche with ice cream, which we haven't had the chance to try in Zadar before and has already become a big hit.
Jeti fritule
These fritule have been delighting the Advent crowd for years, and there are many reasons for that. The first is that they are prepared in a hut and served warm. They are very soft and melt in your mouth, every bite calls for more. You can choose which topping you want, and we would say that the simplest ones, just rolled in a little sugar, are the best.
This hut will also please anyone who has difficulties with lactose or egg consumption because they do not contain milk or eggs and they can eat them to their heart's content. Along with fritule, you can also order warm, crispy and sweet churros at this hut, a favorite dessert that originates from Spanish and Portuguese cuisine.
Adventura
Their most popular burger includes a smoked cheese patty, homemade sauce, cucumbers, onions, bacon, arugula and the ingredient that makes the difference - cracklings. This burger is called Uncle's Burger, and young Ante Ražov explained to us why. His uncle Ivan, in fact, remembered that they added their own homemade cracklings to the burger, and the whole family immediately liked it, so they decided to offer it at Advent. In addition to the crunchiness, the cracklings also added fat to the burger, which turned out to be a complete success.
This is the first time this young team is at Advent and their menu also includes Wild Jersey Girl, inspired by a Bruce Springsteen song with jalapeno peppers, a burger with truffles, two types of sausages, fritters and toast.
Grinch II
The Grinch II house is back at Advent for the second time, attracting attention and visitors with lots of details among the decorations, but also the smell of the winter delicacies they prepare inside. This year, they focused on simple, quick and delicious dishes without which Advent would not be what it is.
Their Grinchburger is with a beef patty, cheese, sausage, salad and sauce. In addition to hamburgers and cheeseburgers, they also offer hot dogs, Debrecenka, homemade sausage, French fries and fritters, and they boasted about their homemade sausage, or divenica in a fresh bun. All meat is sourced from local butchers, and both fritters and buns are from local producers.
Jadova
The last house in the row on Trg Pet bunara on the Perivoje kraljice Jelena Madijevka side has a house specialty that they immediately praised to us. It is smoked pork neck with braised sauerkraut and mustard. After the meat is smoked, it is cooked with cabbage for over two hours, and before serving it goes on a hot grill for 30 seconds, no more.
After that, they put it on a warm brioche bun, add braised cabbage and mustard, and after all that, we have a real winter dish full of flavor that few can resist. They also offer Kresburger with beef, bacon, cheddar cheese, salad and fried onions, homemade divenica, chicken dishes and fritters.
