Petrčane

The atmospheric village Petrčane, located on the slopes of opulent vineyards, makes one of the most beautiful and recognizable pearls and synonyms of Zadar tourism. The village is located between the city of Zadar and the historical town of Nin, the absolute favourite excursion top-spot for the locals and tourists all year long, and a perfect summer oasis for all those eager to enjoy the pristine beaches and crystal blue sea. There are numerous historical remnants in Petrčane. From the Medieval Period, the Church of St Bartholomew was preserved dating from the 12^th and 13^th centuries, which belongs to the type of fortified churches, the Church of St Sabina, while the Church of St Virgil was mentioned in a document from 1175. The first parochial church for the inhabitants of Petrčane was founded by the Benedictines at the beginning of the 17^th century. The patron saints of Petrčane are St John and St Paul, brothers and Roman martyrs from the 4^th century.

Today’s Petrčane is a tourist destination, but agriculture, in particular olive growing and viticulture, is also prospering. The Royal Vineyards in Petrčane are one of the most famous and known spots of viticulture with a focus on autochthonous Croatian grape varieties. Wine tasting room with its vineyards is located on the southern slopes over Petrčane, overlooking the entire area including the nearby archipelago.

You can also visit some of the best known restaurants in the village, such as Moon, Momento or Sidro. Further down the waterfront and the beach, once you enter the peninsula where Pinija hotel is situated, there is a newly opened seaside restaurant well worth visiting while in the area.
