Accessibility In Zadar
As a destination with a long time tourist tradition, Zadar is a city open to all travelers. The City of Zadar together with Zadar Tourist Board and with the great help of the Association of the Disabled from Zadar, took part in EU project under the name Tourism4All, which is designed for persons with disabilities. It aims to present the beauties of the city, its attractions and other facilities suitable for the disabled, as well as locations and routes that can be visited.
The main goal of the European project Tourism4All is the development and promoting of a cross-border network of accessible tourist destinations by means of improving the accessibility of natural and cultural sights and promoting new tourist services. These efforts encourage better social inclusion of persons with disabilities and special needs, and also reduce the seasonality in tourism.
City Attractions
The Old Town, known locally as the Peninsula, is partially accessible to people with disabilities. Ramps are installed in several locations where terrain levels differ. Accessibility has been improved within cultural institutions and landmarks. The Rector’s Palace and the Museum of Ancient Glass fully meet accessibility standards, while the Cathedral of St. Anastasia only partially meets them. The access ramp is located inside the building at the southern side portal, which is often closed, especially during liturgical events. Assistance from inside the cathedral is required to access the ramp, and the auxiliary spaces (baptistery, sacristy, crypt, chapel) are not accessible. The modern attractions Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun are easy to access as they are located on flat ground. However, visitors cannot descend to the lower levels of the Sea Organ without assistance, so access is limited to the upper edge. The Roman Forum is accessible at pavement level, but the lower level of the square has no ramp and is not wheelchair-accessible. The Church of St. Simeon currently does not meet accessibility standards, as none of the entrances are equipped with ramps. Entry without assistance is not possible. Vladimir Nazor Park is fully accessible to people with disabilities.

All public city bus services meet the requirements. On ferry lines, people with disabilities can use the lower passenger part of the ship. On longer trips, they may have to remain in their car in the garage level without air conditioning, which can be a health risk. Access to catamarans is difficult due to steep ramps.

In all parking lots in Zadar, there are always several places for the disabled. The monthly ticket is valid for parking in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th parking zones. National Parks & Nature Parks
Krka National Park
In order to enable people with reduced mobility, people in wheelchairs and families with buggies to get to know the beauties of NP "Krka", the access to the following sites was given: Skradinski buk, Roški slap, Krka Monastery, Burnum, hiking trails and viewpoints. All tour options for people with reduced mobility can be found on the official website of the Krka National Park. A tactile map of the entire course of the river Krka is located in front of the branch office in Skradin. The tactile map of Skradinski buk is located at the Imperial viewpoint on Skradinski buk. The Institution does not provide special aids to people with reduced mobility.
Vrana Lake Nature Park
People with disabilities have access to information centers in the Vrana Lake Nature Park (Crkvine ornithological reserve, Kamenjak viewpoint and Prosika harbor). People in wheelchairs can access and pass educational trails at the locations of Crkvina and Prosika, while at the Kamenjak viewpoint they can access a small panoramical point. Blind people can visit the park with an escort, but unfortunately the information boards are not written in Braille and are therefore not adapted for blind people. There are no special aids or vehicles in the Vrana Lake Nature Park for mobility purposes of people with disabilities. The sanitary facilities in the area of the port of Prosika are adapted for people with disabilities, ie they can be accessed by wheelchairs.
National park Plitvice Lakes
Disabled people with a disability higher than 50% by showing their disability card receive free entry to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The most commonly used material for roads and bridges within the National Park is wood. The bridges are made in a way so that there is a certain distance between each shape that would cause unpleasant vibrations to the person using them when using a wheelchair or pram. Also, there are parts of the trails that change from a bridge to a stepped shape and it would be necessary to raise the cart, which may require additional effort of the accompanying person. For these reasons, we advise people with disabilities (wheelchairs) to move around part of the area whose configuration allows a short tour of the Upper and Lower Lakes.
Option 1:
From the Lower Lakes, ie from Entrance 1 where you can get a magnificent view of the Great Waterfall on the first lookout. Continue along the path to the top of the canyon where the Lower Lakes can be seen above to St1. Then take the train to the top to St3 where you can see the highest lake Prošćansko Lake and with the next train (every half hour) return to St2.
Option 2:
From the Upper Lakes, ie from Entrance 2 with St2 you take the path to the pier p1 and the electric boat transfers you to the pier p3. With the next boat (every half hour) return to pier P1 and return to St2. On the upper road to St2 wait for the next train and return to St1 or continue along the top of the canyon back to Entrance 1.
Note: we advise the tour guide to be informed about the possibilities of visiting people with disabilities, depending on the degree of disability.
Sanitary facilities for people with disabilities are located in the following locations:
- restaurant Lička kuća
- Entrance 1
- Hotel Jezero (close to Entrance 2, or auxiliary entrance Flora)
- catering facility Kozjačka draga (on the pier of the ship P3)
