Upcoming Meat Me Festival | Butcheries Lukin

The first butcher shop of the Lukin family was opened back in 1919 in Kali on the island of Ugljan, which certainly makes them pioneers in this business. Great-grandfather Mate, after returning from the Austro-Hungarian army where he served as quartermaster officer, brought his knowledge of food and meat to that small fishing village. He opened the first butcher's shop, and he delivered the cattle with his own truck.

Today, as the proud bearer of his great-grandfather's legacy, Mate Lukin successfully runs the business following trends, always respecting the tradition that is the basis of their success.

- My grandfather Blaženko, just like my father Mate, and now me too, with my son Lovre, all dedicated our lives to the butcher's trade - says Mate with pride and adds:

- And we enjoy it! I think that is the secret of success: love for what we do - he points out.

The amount of passion invested in this business is best demonstrated by the wall full of plaques and awards. Namely, prosciutto is the crown of their work, and in the last ten years there is no fair where they did not win one or more gold medals.

- Last year we became champions in Croatia for Dalmatian prosciutto! We were also champions for Dalmatian prosciutto at the 15th International Prosciutto Fair, where we competed with about forty prosciutto makers from Croatia, Italy, Spain, Austria, Montenegro... As much as such awards are a strong incentive for our further work, they are also a big responsibility because it requires even greater care for quality control. Our customers know and appreciate that - Mate is clear, adding that in addition to all this, he makes sure that they are accessible to their loyal customers.

Meat, he emphasizes, is exclusively procured from Croatian farms.

- Our lamb is from Velebit and the island of Krk, veal comes from Lika, Pokupsko, Jamnica, Banovina... The bulls are from the area of Bjelovar, Varaždin and Križevci, while the pork is mostly from Slavonia. We pay special attention to the original origin - he emphasizes.

They currently own four butcher shops: on Relja in the shopping center City Galleria, on the Bili Brig market, as well as a small one on Put Petrića, while the one in the old town has a special section with delicacies, such as chocolate, Dalmatian pancetta and Zadar divine.

With its dedicated work and passionate approach to work, the Lukin family not only nurtures a rich tradition, but also creates a future in which quality and passion are integral parts of every delicious story. And just such a story will be created by the restaurateurs at our Meat Me festival, thanking the donation of meat from this well-known butcher shop from the village of Kali.
