Tourist Guides
It is not always easy to get around by only looking at city plans and maps. Besides, maps lack the soul of the city, but if you reach out to tourist guides, you will definitely find it. Their job is to convey their knowledge and love towards Zadar to all who want to experience it with all their senses.
Zadar tourist guides are professionals inspired by the event dating back to 1879, when the first group of tourists from Vienna visited Zadar and its monuments. It was then that the Association for Embellishment of the City was founded, which was active until 1918.
But this wasn't the only association of guides: in 1899 the Liburnia Mountaineering Tourist Association was founded with the goal of improving the cities tourism projects, and until 1991 the professional tourist guides of Zadar operated as the homonymous travel agency. Twelve years later, with the new expansion of the tourism industry, a new generation of tourist guides was verified at the former Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar, today the University of Zadar, and they founded new tourist guide associations in Zadar with the mission of discovering, interpreting and explaining the hidden soul of this ancient city.
The licensed tourist guides of Zadar are true professionals who offer city tours, visits to the museum and religious monuments, theme tours, Zadar County tours (Nin, Pag, Biograd, Asseria next to Benkovac and others), full-day visits to the national and nature parks and multi-day tours all around Croatia. Above all, these professionals guarantee, with their education and knowledge, a professional service, reliable information, experience and a sense of safety to all Zadar visitors.
Tourist Guides' Association Donat
The Zadar tourist guides' association Donat gathers a great team of professional tourist guides in the biggest number of European and non-European languages. The city tour lasts from one up to three hours. There is also a possibility to visit nearby sights and cities as well as other places in Croatia. Donat tourist guides describe themselves as the genuine embodiment of Zadar cultural tourism and as shield-bearers of Zadar and Croatian cultural identity.
