With the Grand Carnival Parade, the Carnival Time 2025 Has Come to an End

With a grand carnival parade and a concert by Soulfingers featuring Mario Petreković, the Carnival Time 2025, organized by the Zadar Tourist Board, has come to an end. The keys to the city are once again in safe hands after three days of turbulent rule by Mayor Erik Brka Trumpeta, the Carnival’s first cousin Maja Oštro Dlaka, and their entourage, who fulfilled only one of their pre-election promises—unblocking the budget and maxing out the official card.

Sixteen masked groups paraded along Liburnian waterfront, from the city bridge to Our Lady of Health, across the Forum to People's Square. The Zadar majorettes led the way, followed by their counterparts from Gospić and Perušić, along with the Zadar City Orchestra. The first themed mask, Candy Crush, was presented by the Ritam Benkovac association, while the crowd erupted in applause for the participants from Petrčane, who brought The Promised Land to the carnival, depicting life and working conditions in their hometown. The carnival jury, stationed in front of the Archaeological Museum, awarded them the highest score so far—38 points.

The Trogir Carnival Association Rašpin Jute presented a Black Friday Discounts theme, while students from the dormitory dressed as grape clusters, the women from Nin’s Aenona as olives, Stanarci as chimney sweeps, and the Biograd-based Tome Krnjeval carnival association as nutcrackers. After a MasterChef performance by the Puntamika Carnival Association, the islanders from KUD Mrtovnjak delivered another electrifying performance—an homage to the American heavy metal band Slipknot. Their terrifying masks and intense energy tied them with The Promised Land for the highest score.

The Vespa Club Zadar brought a touch of Italian dolce vita, KUD Sveti Donat presented Čerge, while Kveštura Diklo took on The Mad Hatters. The last group to face the jury was Poluotok, with their City Horoscope group mask. Thanks to their stunning zodiac sign costumes and thought-provoking messages about life in the city center, they received perfect scores from the carnival jury—four straight tens—securing the title of the best mask of the carnival parade.

The competition for the best individual masks was held on Saturday during a concert featuring Zadar bands. The first prize went to a Ballerina mask, the second to Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy, and the third to Beetlejuice.
