The Maritime Collection of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts

The Maritime Collection is located in one of the most beautiful villas, which was built at the beginning of the 20th century in the area of Brodarica opposite the historical center of Zadar. The Maritime Collection is founded with the aim of preserving and representing to the public rich maritime history of Zadar and northern Dalmatia and its connections with wider region. 

The collecting of artifacts begun in 1958 and to the present day the collection has grown to more than 400 objects. The permanent exhibition presents chronologicaly and thematically displayed objects related to navigation and everyday life on board, maritime education as well as other activities related to the sea (fishing, shipbuilding, shipping, marine equipment manufacturing...) Among them, there are to be mentioned wooden monoxylon (dugout canoe), anchors from Roman period, ship cannon from 16th century, terrestrial and celestial globe from the 18th and 19th century, models of Zadar's sailing ships, steamship and modern ships and other valuable objects.
