The first bridge across the city port was built in 1928. It was destroyed in the 1944 bombing of the city. In that same place, in 1949, a temporary pontoon or a floating bridge was anchored on tin gasoline barrels. It was not easy to cross the bridge during strong southern (Jugo) and northern (Bura) winds. Finally, in 1962, today’s bridge was opened for use with a big public celebration. It is intended for use only by pedestrians, and it is 152 metres long, and six metres wide.
