The first electric light bulbs were lit up in Zadar on New Year's Eve of 1894: “The crowd that gathered at the Lords’ Square was huge, when - the clock struck 8 o’clock - they lit up, and white, silver, calm light illuminated the whole square, bright as at midday”. In the wild New Year’s Eve, the city bathed in electric lighting. All together 23 streets and three squares were lit up. Today’s lamp post in the centre of the People’s Square is not the original one, but a copy, placed in the exact same place a hundred years later.
