St Simeon Brought a Thief Back to Life

The Church of St Simeon was a particularly attractive place of gathering for pilgrims who stopped regularly in Zadar on their way from Europe to the Holy Land. One of them, the Prussian aristocrat Ludwig von Rauter, wrote in July 1569, how in Zadar "there was once a thief, who was hung for three hours. His wife prayed that they take him down, then took him inside the church of St Simeon and there she cried and wailed over him. The thief was brought back to life and left. He lived while I was there, and was stealing more than ever".
