The street that goes along the southern border of the People's Square earned the epithet of a mythical Zadar street quite rightly. To this very day it follows the path of the main longitudinal Roman street (Decumanus Maximus), and since Zadar had previously been a strong centre of the Illyrian tribe, the Liburnians, this main city street flowed even then through the spine of the peninsula. Therefore, it existed before the city itself. Strict Roman urbanization simply confirmed its natural placement, and future urban eras did not make any changes in that regard.
