What will the gastro offer be like in Zadar during Advent season 2022

Judging by the chefs' announcements, the Zadar Advent Fair will smell of fritters and pecipaja (flat bread), burgers made of good beef and homemade pork sausages, and the usual Advent street food and fast food offer. But most of the hospitality workers have announced an offer of more serious and long-cooked dishes, creative sandwiches and other street nibbles. Partly due to strong competition, and partly due to the desire to offer something different that will be remembered for its good food, the Advent hospitality workers have promised an imaginative and much better offer than in previous years.

Various preparations of burgers continue to be the predominant part of the offer in more than ten wooden houses making the offer of this globally popular fast food most interesting with the fiercest competition. In ne of the houses, we will have the opportunity to taste cottages a burger with sour kraut and whiskey sauce, chicken burgers with a trace of pork as well as vegan burgers and also those made with aged meat in a brioche bun.

A good number of hospitality workers have also announced a good range of boiled and baked homemade sausages, or divenica, as we call them in Dalmatia, although the best sausages usually arrive stuffed according to Slavonian recipes. Whether it will be so during this Advent remains to be seen but it is interesting to know that we will also be able to get real Dalmatian krvavice sausages.

Behind the stands of some cottages smoke will rise from grilled ribs and steaks. Cooked dishes will not be lacking as well as pašticada and Skradin risottos, venison with gnocchi as well as cuttlefish risotto. Fish specialties will be well represented in the Advent gastro offer, most often fried squid, smelt, sardines and prawn.  Several houses are “threatening” with cod and there will also be fish burgers. It will be interesting to see sandwiches of destructed sardines announced by one of the cottages. The colorful variety of food offer will be complemented with a series of various salads, among which that of tuna and quinoa in offer by some of the houses while the pastry offer is a special story.

Hot fritters will not be lacking on the Advent stands and neither will pecipaje (flat bread) but, according to announcements, the stands will also offer real cakes and pastry, pancakes, arancina (Italian rice balls stuffed with breadcrumbs and deep fried), lemon and candied almonds.

The sweet Advent story continues with the offer of hot chocolate among other offered beverages. Along with the Advent boiled wine, the good Zadar waiters will prepare many types of cold and warm cocktails, grappa, liqueurs and boiled gin, may types of beer and Zadar craft beer with, of course, other warm beverages.

It is interesting to note that a well-known restaurant in Zadar, whose offer consists exclusively of Asian dishes, will have its own Advent house this year and will offer dishes under a common name – Asian Christmas. We will see how the visitors in the Advent squares will appreciate prawn from woks and dandan noodles but that offer will surely contribute to the variety of the rich gastronomy offer of Advent 2022 in Zadar.
