Ist

Ist

Ist is an island surrounded by numerous small islands and cliffs with about 250 permanent residents.

The homonymous place on the island has two shops, cafés, a pizzeria and three restaurants. Ist was mentioned for the first time in the 14th century, and from 1920s it had the biggest navy in Dalmatia. Ist is also known for a basketball tournament and a swimming marathon. The island is the birthplace of Dina Levačić, the first Croatian woman to swim across La Manche.

The peaceful island of Ist, with its main settlement of the same name placed in a bay with a small marina, is ideal for those who prefer quiet, somewhat secluded outdoor holidays. The island has barely 250 inhabitants. There are hills, olive groves and vineyards in its interior. Ist and the neighbouring islands of Molat and Škarda, with their sandy beaches, bays and sandbanks are ideal for sports fishing, diving and nautical tourism. Anchorage is available in the Mljaka bay where guests are offered accommodation in private holiday houses.
