The first exhibition called The Gold and Silver of Zadar was initiated by the great Croatian writer Miroslav Krleža, who was glorifying Zadar's gold, and in 1976 it was turned into a Permanent Exhibition of Religious Art within the Benedictine Convent of Saint Mary in Zadar. It is one of the most valuable collections in Croatia, popularly called the Gold and Silver of Zadar. In the eight contemporary halls, on a surface of about 1,200 square metres, Zadar's gold and silver shines with dazzling beauty, and these priceless treasures are kept safe by the Benedictine Nuns.
